The Dutch Elasmobranch Society is pleased to host the 21st Annual European Elasmobranch Association Meeting from 12-14 October in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. We hope to meet you at a stimulating conference where the latest and greatest in elasmobranch research will be presented. In keeping with the EEA’s role of providing an interface between science and policy, we have chosen as an underlying theme for this year’s meeting:
“The science you need for the policy you want”
The EEA meeting sessions will cover, but are not limited to: perspectives for spatial management; movement ecology; coherence in international legislation and policy; selectivity, survival, and discards of elasmobranchs in fisheries; and elasmobranch husbandry. We are proud to announce that Dr. Neil Hammerschlag, Dr. Robert Hueter, and Dr. Kim Friedman will be keynote speakers at the conference.
The three-day conference will be held at the grand building of the KIT Royal Tropical Institute, only a stone’s throw away from the city center with all its famous historical sites and landmarks, and within walking distance from the Amsterdam Zoo and several beautifully landscaped parks.
Starting on Thursday, October 12th, 2017, and ending on Saturday, October 14th, 2017, the EEA meeting will include a diverse programme of lectures and breakout sessions on key topics in the study of cartilaginous fishes. The icebreaker event on Thursday evening will be held at the impressive Marble Hall of the KIT and on Friday evening, there will be a special cultural event at Jungle, Amsterdam. The conference dinner is set for the final Saturday evening, including the traditional auction to raise funds for the student bursaries.
Prices are € 140,- for EEA members; € 175,- for non-EEA members and € 110,- for students. Costs include lunch on Friday and Saturday and tea/coffee/refreshments on all days, as well as the social events on Thursday and Friday evening. Costs to attend a single day are € 75,- (€ 55,- for students). The conference dinner will cost € 45,-. As always, the EEA rewards bursaries to a limited number of presenting students to help them cover the cost of attending the meeting.
